The Chiefs Series continues with Sitting Bull
Sitting Bull, the indomitable Hunkpapa Lakota leader and visionary holy man, rose like a thunderhead over the Great Plains in the 19th century, embodying the fierce spirit of a people refusing to be broken. A warrior, prophet, and unyielding defender of his culture, he united fractious Lakota and Northern Cheyenne bands under his medicine and wisdom, culminating in the stunning victory at the Little Bighorn in 1876, where his warriors humbled Custer’s cavalry in a clash that still echoes as a pinnacle of Native resistance. Exiled to Canada, imprisoned, and eventually martyred at Standing Rock in 1890 amid the Ghost Dance movement, Sitting Bull never bent to the reservation’s chains or the government’s broken promises. His legacy endures as a symbol of sovereignty, spiritual power, and the unquenchable fire of those who fight not just for land, but for a way of life rooted in harmony with the earth and the sacred circle of all living things.
